The first time I found out about this upcoming show, my reaction is “WTF?” Seriously???
Nate Berkus was originally a guest home designer for the Oprah Show. Every now and then, when Oprah would have a home makeover, Nate was the guy. Admittedly, he’s good at what he does. I have watched other home design shows in HGTV or Lifestyle Network and there are a lot of great designers. The thing that bugs me is that designing homes is a skill but it doesn’t follow that they can handle a full show being the host. Something is lacking with Nate’s personality to really execute a good home design show. In the Oprah Show, Nate would only host a segment of the show which is like 15-20 minutes and that’s it.
To upgrade him to a full show is really questionable. His voice tone is very mono-tone so it’s not lively or even if he is, it might not come out as authentic unlike other hosts of the same concept, all the more a talk show? I do find him lacking in certain audience engagement. If you will notice is previous Oprah Show episodes, Nate is very timid and soft spoken. I can’t imagine watching him the whole time in a full talk show. It will bore me to death. Despite that it’s financially supported by Harpo Productions (owned by Oprah) I feel this will be done in vain. I really don’t think Nate can handle or even manage the expectations of handling and leading a talk show.
In giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, I surely hopes this will be a good show. Otherwise, it’s such a waste of time and resources. But still it’s worth giving him the opportunity to prove me wrong – highly unlikely…
